Motivating to Ecological farming
Both my father and
Mother are engaged in agricultural activities and we prefer to test new things.
When I was a little child I liked bees much and at the age of 13, I started bee
culture in my home garden. when I was at the same age , my mother was sent to
Thailand,by the government department of agriculture and another N.G.O, as she
had maintained a successful home garden of "Gotukola "anutritious
leave enriched with vitamins and other nutrients. She was sent there for an
additional training. This encouraged me to start a home garden.
I start a home garden that time I have five cows and 10 hens .I was the
first place at the electorate level for my home grading
and farming, at the students' home
garden competition held in 1992 my home garden was selected as the best home
garden in the katugampola electorate. I also won the prizes for the best student home gardener in the province and divisional secretariat area. By that time, I was a student. I
continued home gardening. Then again in 1993 my home garden becomes the first
at the provincial level students" home garden contest. For this I
received a certificate and prizes from Mr. D. B Wijetunga, The president of
Sri- Lanka, by that time. During the same period, I participated in training
on milking cows, mushroom cultivation. Later, while I was doing my A\ Ls, I
started growing mushrooms and anthuriums in my home garden. I worked as an Agriculture Instructor in PASASA institute- Navalapitiya – Sri Lanka in organic
farming, “nawa kakulama ‘system for a period of 03 year.
After that I joined the organic,
at the age of 22. At the same time I got another job opportunity to work as an
education officer for a co- operative society. But I selected to work with the
rural community. That is because; I too belong to a rural peasant family.
My great interest is in Ecological agriculture, I have worked in Pasesa in as a trainer of ecological agriculture. I'm also involved in ecological agriculture practices in my personal life. I have an organic home garden in my own and looking after that is my biggest hobby at the moment I am helping promoting organic home gardening among them.
Presently I have been working in a wwooflk
and eco community (Sri Lanka) since 2010. We are launching a Rural Development Project
here. My main responsibilities are
developing practical and theoretical knowledge for the budding Organic
Farming Community in the Sri Lankan countryside. I come from a rural
family background in a country where traditional farming practices are still
widely in use. Many of the principles of organic farming are among these techniques
passed down for generations. I have also studied agriculture extensively in
school and in practice. In the eco community I work as the coordinator of our
outreach program, where we visit rural families and aid them in their
aspirations for sustainable and regenerative agriculture. I have also
instituted a reading club for school children with the aim of teaching them
about the benefits of these farming practices among other activities such as
music, sport, cultural exchange and environmental awareness.

having four rooms, 2 acres paddy field, 22 coconut trees, two water catchment
places, two small rocks, a cowshed, 20 perch home garden, Harachi graden and a

developing the modal farm the labor and the resources are taken from the
volunteers as the volunteer service. For the maintenance of eco community, the
service is taken from the wwoofers and volunteers in order to get the maximum
output to the farm with their various knowledge and experience from different
countries

2. Preparing volunteer programmes to give knowledge and experience for the young people who are in the fields related to Eco community organization. By these the opportunity is given for both Sri- Lankan and foreign youth to share their experiences and ideas. Especially the youth from foreign countries get the opportunity to learn about the society and the culture of Sri- Lanka.
